If video marketing is new to you, there’s a possibility you might actually have been avoiding it till now due to a tragic misconception or two. You’ll know if I’m right as you keep reading, because these misconceptions create instinctive objections.

What is an instinctive objection?  One of those ones that’s out of your mouth, the moment people start to suggest certain things – and certainly before you’ve had a chance to stop and think. So let’s deal with 2 of the most common instinctive objections to video marketing right now, to see if they hold up under the spotlight.

Q # 1: “I already cover several areas in my marketing methods – I use social networking, blog posts and articles. I’m not going to get any more customers from my target market by wasting time making videos.”

A: First, adding another media to your marketing is never a bad thing. There will be segments of your own, actual target market who never subscribe to certain forms of media. If they never read online blogs or articles, and you market only through online blogs and articles, you’ll miss them completely. If you always do your social networking on Twitter, and they’re avid Facebook users, you’ll miss them completely. If they always watch video, but you’ve decided to avoid video marketing, you’ll miss them completely.

Q # 2. “There’s way too much competition. I read that YouTube videos number in the billions.”

Yes, it’s true there’s a tsunami of competition… But what’s also true is that a huge percentage of the videos you’ll find on venues like YouTube are, to put it bluntly, garbage.  (Spend an afternoon surfing, and you’ll see what I mean!)
For every one gem, you might find several  hundred self-indulgent or nasty videos with nothing valuable to say. And even the “one gem” is most likely about something absolutely unrelated to your subject.  (Don’t forget, even among the “good” videos, they don’t always exist for the purpose of video marketing.) When you get right down to it and examine the competition, what people are searching for, and examine the category you could best promote within, your video marketing chances may be much stronger than you think!
